when you stop trying to get it right...

I was zen doodling the other day, Reader. It’s a practice I’ve only recently taken up. At first, I felt this pressure to "do it right", to make the lines clean and balanced. Like there was some invisible standard I was supposed to meet.

About halfway through, something in me softened. My breathing slowed, my grip loosened, and the need to make it perfect fell away. That’s when the page before me started to change.

Not because I tried harder, but because I stopped trying to control it.

It made me think of breathwork and expectations. How often we hold ourselves to invisible (and usually self-imposed) standards.

We push ourselves to have the perfect year, the perfect moment. So we grip tighter, push harder and try to force specific outcomes—in our lives, our healing, even our breath.

But breathwork doesn’t respond to (or require) perfectionism, it responds to presence. Your unique presence, Reader.

You see, while there’s a breathing pattern we start with, my teaching style has never been about forcing anyone into a strict formula. It’s always led by what your body is asking for that day.

Somewhere along the way, your breath takes over. And when it does, it begins to move what has felt unmovable, without you needing to push. That’s when the real work begins.

Just like with zen doodling, the beauty isn’t in perfectly drawn lines. It’s in what emerges when you stop judging the process. And most importantly, when you stop judging yourself. When you stop expecting perfection from yourself.

That intricate design that slowly appears? That’s the same divinity that resides within you.

The part of you that’s been muddied by grief, worry, day-to-day responsibilities, and the pressure to hold it all together slowly fades into the background with each exhale. And the part that knows exactly who you are, and doesn’t judge you one bit, takes center stage.

Breathwork doesn’t demand a perfect practice or the perfect version of you. It simply creates enough space for who you truly are to surface.

I was reminded of that earlier this week with a client. After her session, she looked at me and said, “I forgot how powerful this is. I feel lighter. Clearer. Like myself again.”

Her life didn’t suddenly become perfect, but something inside her realigned. And that kind of healing matters more than we think.

So no, you don’t need to fix everything at once, Reader. You don’t need to have the perfect plan, the perfect practice, or the perfect timing.

Sometimes healing looks like releasing the need to "get it right" and letting yourself be okay with meeting yourself where you are.

If your body has been craving that kind of support, I’m always here to hold space for you.

EXTERNAL VALIDATION

essential meanings: finding your own vibe and your own beat, effortlessly attracting Others because of your warm energy tuning out the noise of external validation and listening to your own heart, opening yourself up to external validation and accepting compliments

self-care message: Paying too much attention to naysayers, listening to opinion as if it is fact, worrying about what others might think, the addictive nature of needing praise, an addiction to social media

On one hand, external validation can build you up, and give you the encouragement and support continue. Perhaps external validation whispers, "We love it! Continue! We want more." It can be wonderfully supportive and reassuring, and offer glimpses into what's possible for the future. In this way, external validation can be a driving force for your success. Yet on the other hand, it can be terribly addictive and become far too Important if you give it too much power. It's important to learn how to tune it out in order to tune in to your own vibe and creative north. This is especially true when others don't understand your vision or when you are doing something totally new. The absence of external validation can be a creativity killer if you find yourself unable to move ahead without it. It's time to know thyself, and to rely on your own acumen and intuition as you decide something's value. Accept the positive when it's there, and in its absence-be your own cheerleader! Allow your own potential to inspire you, and tune out the noise of external validation whenever it's not gifting you joy. Throw a headset on, light a candle in your heart, groove to your favorite drumbeat, and relax. Your unique gift for seeing the world in your unique way will guide you.

When do you rely on someone else's opinion, and whose perspective is the most important when there is a difference of opinion?

How can you use external validation as a way to market test or perception-check, without relying on it for inspiration?

How can you learn to be your own compass?

When is your optimal time to seek a second opinion?

In your current situation, you must have the only voice that matters. What does your heart say?

As always only take what feels right in your heart and soul and leave the rest behind. Remember, these are general readings. This is usually the time of year when I take a step away from the newsletter and let the studio rest for a few weeks, Reader. And part of that is still true, this year has been anything but typical. Not just for me, but for so many of you. There’s been a lot of change, a lot of grief, and yet still woven throughout, moments of joy too. And all of it deserves to be honored. While I’ve paused my regular schedule for the rest of the year, I’ll still be in the studio solely to hold space for The...

An online end of year ritual

I’ve been receiving some thoughtful questions about The Sacred Threshold, and if you’ve been curious too, I wanted to share a few answers with you here, Reader. Whether you're feeling unsure, new to this kind of ritual, or wondering if it’s the “right time”, just know this: your questions are welcome here. And so are you. The first in-person group ritual is this Saturday, Dec 20th, so if you’ve been feeling the pull, this is your gentle nudge. And if that date doesn’t work for you, don’t...

I've been thinking about the message from this card I've been seeing a lot of this year, Reader. I pulled it earlier this year in the summer. Not by accident, not randomly, but after I guided myself through breathwork, intentionally asking for a sign from my niece who passed away this January. And it’s been showing up for me again and again… especially over the last few months. The card’s message is simple, celebrate your wins. But something about the following words really struck a cord deep...
